    Hi Totos,

I’m new to slow pitch jigging. I have a Slow Jerker 603-3 and Ocea Jigger 2000NR-HG with a PE1.5 line. I normally fish between 80-150m on an anchored boat. What seafloor Jigs to you recommend, sizes & color?

    Thank you

      Hi Zaki.
Hmmmm… From an anchored boat. That is the problem. You mean, anchored to the bottom, right?
Staying vertical is the critical factor for the success of slow pitch jigging. Is there other boats you can fish from?
If you are free-driting, and you have 603-3, I think 40m to 70m is the appropriate depth.

Hi I fish coastal waters of northern California for lingcod & rock cod. I prefer the bottom fish to the schooling fish. I fish as shallow as r0 feet & as deep as 240 ft. Reel- ocea jigger 2000 spooled with pe3 & a metal witch rod rated pe4 (6’3″) Ive ordered 2 secret rector jigs & want to offer a variety of presentations. Can you recommend other models? & appropriate weights? My 2 ordered jigs are 150 gram. Thank you very mu h. Wat hed every single 1of your videos. Very helpful. You also had a chart that shows tbe best rod paring to a given lure weight. Where can I fi d that. Thanks again.

Hi Jim. I got your email too.
How are you drifting while fishing?  This is the most important question.  Usually people are free-drifting when they don’t say anything about the drift, so I assume you are. When you are free-drifting, your verticality totally depends on the ocean conditions and you have no control over it.  Only thing you can do is to use light line, and to have a variety of jig weights that can match the conditions.  Recently I talked about that and jigging in the shallow waters on facebook.https://www.facebook.com/JapaneseAnglersSecrets

You are fishing from 20m – 80m.  The rod you have is Power 4.  I would say if you have Power 3 and 4, that would cover most of the situation except the windy situation at your deeper end.  Jig weight range from 120g to 260g probably.  Power 3 rod can do 260g no problem if you are vertical.  It’s usually the water resistance (= the poor verticality) when you think the rod is too soft for the job.  You don’t have to cover all the conditions and all the depth rage.  You just need to find the best balance of the time among your drift, the depth, and the jig weight.
But Rector isn’t a good jig type when you are free-drifting.  It’s slow to fall and gives you line slack.  The slow fall makes Rector a great jig but you should use it when you have a friendly condition, or use the heavy jig in the shallow.  Arc and Spunky would probably be the most vertical jig types when you are free-drifting.
The next time you plan to purchase Slow Jerker, get Power 3 or 4.  Power 3 maybe since you have a Power 4 rod already.  But once you have a Slow Jerker, I think you will want to replace Metal Witch #4 with Slow Jerker #4.  But having 2 models always helps you adapt to the conditions better.
      Good luck.
